Sembro Roble is a youthful Ribera del Duero from Vinas del Jaro, made from Tempranillo with six months in oak. Fresh and approachable, it shows raspberry, red cherry and a light floral lift over a gentle frame of spice.
Description
Sembro Roble is made by Vinas del Jaro in Ribera del Duero, a winery within a group founded by the Osborne family, whose roots run back to eighteenth-century sherry production. The wine is made from Tempranillo, known locally as Tinta del Pais. Ribera del Duero sits on a high plateau along the Duero river, where altitude and a strong day-to-night temperature swing let the grapes ripen fully while holding fresh acidity. The soils are a mix of limestone, clay and sand, which give the wine structure and brightness. This is a young, early-drinking style, aged for just six months in oak barrels, enough to round the tannins and add a light vanilla and spice without covering the fruit. The wine pours a vivid cherry red with violet edges. The nose is fresh and lively, with raspberry, red cherry, plum and a delicate floral note. On the palate it is medium bodied and approachable, with juicy fruit, soft tannins and a clean, fruit-driven finish. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees, with grilled meat, roast pork or tomato-based dishes.
