Description
Tenuta Selvadolce sits on the coast of Liguria in north-west Italy, where Aris Blancardi farms biodynamically after learning the approach from a leading biodynamic mentor. The grape is Vermentino, the classic white of the Ligurian coast, valued for its citrus, herbal and saline character. VB1 is made as an orange wine, fermented and aged for three months on its skins in stainless steel. The terraced coastal vineyards, sea breezes and stony soils give fresh fruit with a marked saline minerality. Skin contact draws phenolics and gentle tannin from the grape skins, giving the golden colour, light grip and savoury texture, while the inert steel and short ageing keep the wine fresh and let the coastal character show through clearly. The wine is intense golden in the glass. The nose shows citrus peel, white peach, pear and Mediterranean herbs over an almond note. The palate is dry and textured, the citrus and stone fruit carried by a saline, mineral finish that reflects the seaside terroir. It is biodynamic, organic, natural and vegan. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
