Description
Séléné is named after the Greek goddess of the moon, a fitting reference for Sylvère Trichard's biodynamic estate in Beaujolais. This is his Beaujolais Rouge from Gamay, the classic grape of the region, made in a fresh, easy-drinking style. The region's granite and clay soils suit Gamay well, and the cooler semi-continental climate, with warm days and cold nights, preserves the bright acidity and lifted fruit that define good Beaujolais. Farming is biodynamic, certified natural and vegan, with the four-hectare estate worked by hand and treated as a single living system. Vinification follows a natural approach with native yeast and minimal intervention, keeping the wine vivid and fruit-forward with very fine tannin. The colour is a bright, captivating red. The nose is lively, with fresh red fruit, cherry and strawberry, over a delicate floral note. The palate is light to medium bodied and juicy, with red-berry fruit, soft tannin and crisp acidity that makes it refreshing and easy to drink. Serve at 13 to 15 degrees, lightly chilled. It is a flexible table wine for charcuterie, roast pork and poultry.
