Luberri makes Seis from young Tempranillo grown between the Ebro and the Sierra de Cantabria in Rioja. Vinified by carbonic maceration and given six months in oak, it is bright and juicy, with fresh red berries, cherry and a light peppery lift.
Description
Seis de Luberri is a varietal Tempranillo from the Luberri cellar in D.O.Ca. Rioja. The grapes come from around 29 hectares spread between the river Ebro and the lower slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, where cooler nights help retain freshness in the fruit. Viticulture is kept low intervention, with a manual harvest in mid-September. The wine follows the traditional carbonic maceration method, where whole uncrushed bunches ferment under a blanket of carbon dioxide and each berry begins fermenting from the inside. This intracellular process extracts colour and bright fruit while keeping tannin low, giving the soft, juicy style typical of young Rioja. Six months in oak barrels add a light frame without covering the fruit. The wine is vivid purple, with aromas of red berries, cherry and red currant and a gentle peppery spice. The palate is fresh and supple, low in tannin, with crisp acidity and an easy finish. This is a red to drink young and can take a light chill. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees. It suits charcuterie, roast chicken and lighter pork dishes.
