Javier Zaccagnini makes Sei Solo in La Horra, in the heart of D.O. Ribera del Duero, from Tinto Fino alone. Old vines of 60 to 90 years and 21 months in barrel give a deep, structured red of black cherry, plum and earthy spice.

Description
Sei Solo is the Ribera del Duero project of Javier Zaccagnini, made only from Tinto Fino, the local clone of Tempranillo. The fruit comes from 6.33 hectares of old vines aged between 60 and 90 years, in the village of La Horra, one of the most highly regarded parts of the appellation. Old vines naturally crop low and concentrate flavour, while the deep roots draw on the clay and limestone subsoil that holds water through the dry summers. La Horra sits high on the Ribera plateau, where cold nights preserve acidity and slow the ripening that builds the wine's colour and tannin. Picking is done by hand into small boxes to keep the fruit intact and fresh on the way to the cellar. The wine is aged for 21 months in barrel, a long élevage that rounds the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and knits the oak into the fruit. The colour is deep, dark cherry. The nose shows black cherry, plum, liquorice and a tobacco and earth complexity, and the palate is full bodied and firmly structured, with fine grained tannin and a savoury, mineral finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanting an hour ahead. Built for roast and grilled red meat.
