Secha de la Silva is best understood as a flavoured, coffee and cacao led spirit drink rather than a traditional aged rum. Built on a light Guatemalan column still molasses base and bottled at 40%, it puts its sweet coffee and chocolate character front and centre, so it is fairest to set expectations toward a liqueur style experience.
The nose is rich with cocoa, fruit, dark chocolate and coffee, and the palate follows into cocoa, vanilla, caramelised sugar and coffee, finishing on dark chocolate and lingering coffee. It comes across rounded and gently sweet, opening up and revealing more of its aromas the longer it sits in the glass.
