Description
Schoenheitz is the sole bottler in Wihr-au-Val, a village in the Munster Valley in Alsace, and works south to south-west facing slopes where the steepness forces most vineyard work to be done by hand. The Linsenberg parcel sits on granite soils farmed organically. Granite drains freely and holds little water, which stresses the vines and concentrates the fruit, while the site's altitude widens the day to night temperature swing that locks in Riesling's natural acidity and aromatic detail. The grapes are pressed and fermented dry, without oak, so the aromatics stay clear and the mineral edge of the granite carries through. The wine is pale with green tints. The nose leads with green apple and fresh citrus, lemon and grapefruit, backed by a subtle floral character and a touch of orchard fruit that comes with the ripeness of the vintage. On the palate it is dry and vivid, the acidity firm and the finish clean and stony. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.

Additional information
Serve with grilled sole, prawns or a plate of oysters, where the citrus and firm acidity work like a squeeze of lemon. It also stands up to roast pork with apple, and the dry, aromatic character makes it a reliable match for milder tandoori and tikka dishes.
