Description
Schoenheitz farm the steep slopes of Wihr-au-Val in the Munster Valley, the former Val Saint Grégoire, one of the highest and coolest corners of Alsace. The vines rise to around 500 metres on granite soils, and this altitude and free-draining stone give a long, cool growing season that keeps the wine fresh and precise. Pinot Blanc is a gentle, less aromatic variety, and here it is farmed organically and made without oak, kept in steel to protect its soft apple and pear fruit. Steel holds the wine bright and unforced, while a short rest on the fine lees rounds the texture and adds a subtle creaminess without masking the fruit. The colour is pale lemon with silvery tints, the nose shows green apple, pear, white flowers and a touch of white peach, and the palate is light, fresh and clean, with lemon, almond and a soft stony finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees.
