Schloss Gobelsburg, one of the oldest wineries on the Danube, makes this young Grüner Veltliner from vines on the loess soils of the Kamp valley. Unoaked and fresh, it shows green apple, citrus and the grape’s signature white-pepper lift.

Description
Schloss Gobelsburg traces its winemaking back to 1711 and sits in Niederösterreich, on the Danube in Lower Austria, where Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are the star grapes. This bottling comes from vineyards on the Kamp river, planted on loess, a deep wind-blown soil that holds water well and gives Grüner Veltliner a broad, textured fruit character. The continental climate brings warm days and cool nights, and that diurnal swing preserves the grape's crisp acidity and aromatic freshness. The wine is made young and unoaked, fermented cool in stainless steel to protect the primary fruit and the varietal spice, so what reaches the glass is a clear picture of grape and site. The colour is pale straw with green highlights. The nose leads with green apple, lemon and white peach, with white flowers and the trademark note of white pepper. The palate is dry, light and lively, with a mineral core and a clean, peppery finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
