Description
Schloss Gobelsburg Gruner Veltliner Lamm is a barrel-fermented Gruner Veltliner from one of the Austrian Danube's oldest estates, whose winemaking tradition traces back to a Cistercian monastery founded in 1171. It comes from the Lamm vineyard in Kamptal, a warm, sheltered site of deep loess over gravel that produces some of the region's fullest, most powerful Gruner. Kamptal's continental climate brings warm days and cold nights, and the loess soils give the wine breadth and ripe fruit while the diurnal swing keeps its acidity intact. Fermenting and ageing in large oak builds body, a fine autolytic depth and a savoury texture, with the barrel adding structure rather than obvious wood. The colour is bright golden yellow. The nose is ripe and layered, with pear and white peach over white pepper, ginger spice and a hint of toasted bread. The palate is dry and full-bodied, with concentrated fruit, a peppery core and a long, mineral finish that carries the site's power. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees in a larger glass.
