Description
This Unshared Cask for Germany is a 10 year old Savanna from Reunion, a molasses based single cask drawn from a 2013 vintage and bottled at cask strength, 49.8%. An ex cognac cask gives it a distinctly fruity, brandy tinged character rather than the distillery's grassier or wilder profiles.
The cognac influence is generous, bringing strawberry candy, raisin, baked apple and honey on the nose, while the palate turns spicy and sweet with raisin and cognac to the fore, then a woody, vanilla, caramel and cognac led finish. It drinks relaxed and approachable rather than powerful, and it really opens with some breathing time, the fruit growing more expressive in the glass. This is an enjoyable, fruit forward cask finish for drinkers who like cognac matured rum, best given a little patience before sipping.
