Savanna Unshared Cask for France (LMDW) 2010

This Unshared Cask for La Maison du Whisky is a Savanna from Reunion, distilled from fresh pressed sugar cane and just over nine years old, drawn from a 2010 vintage and bottled at 55%. As cane juice rum from outside the French AOC, it is best described as agricole style, and it shows a more characterful, evolving side of the distillery.

The nose mixes tropical fruit and floral notes with menthol, smoke and wood, while the palate turns dry and structured, with cooling menthol, tropical fruit, black pepper and firm oak. The finish runs long, all smoke, pepper, leather and wood. It is complex and shifting in the glass rather than a simple, grassy white, the smoke and menthol giving it a distinctive signature. A rewarding step up in strength and depth for drinkers who already enjoy Savanna's more expressive cane juice bottlings.
