This Unshared Cask for Belgium is an eight year aged Savanna from Reunion, distilled in 2015 from molasses rather than cane juice, placing it in the distillery's traditional family. Bottled at a bracing 62.1 percent and finished in Calvados casks, it brings an apple-orchard twist to the Savanna profile.
Distilled on Savanna's Savalle column from molasses and finished in Calvados wood, it leans crisp and fruity: fresh apple, mint and a clear Calvados note on the nose, with apple, pineapple and citrus joined by spice and light esters on the palate. The finish is vegetal, woody, spicy and fruity. Certified unsweetened, it is notable for how well the high strength integrates, the 62 percent drinking far more smoothly than the number suggests.
