A 13 year cask strength Savanna at 64.5%, double finished in cognac and calvados wood for a hard hitting pour of green and baked apple, caramel, dry oak and olive, intense and gourmand for serious drinkers.
Description
This Wild Island Edition Vague is a 13 year old Savanna from Reunion, a molasses based rum from a 2006 vintage bottled at cask strength, 64.5%. A double finish in cognac and calvados casks gives it a pronounced orchard fruit character, the calvados in particular driving the apple notes hard.
The profile leans toward green and baked apple, with caramel, dry wood, olive and warm spice rounding it out, and a nutty, yellow fruit lift on the nose. The palate is fruity and full at full strength, the calvados unmistakable, before a dry, apple and olive led finish. There is real intensity and a gourmand richness here that suits drinkers who enjoy punchy Grand Arome style Savanna and like calvados or dry apple spirits. It is a glass to savour slowly, a bold cask finish for experienced palates.
