Savanna The Wild Island Edition Grotte Marine is a fifteen year old rum from Savanna on Reunion, matured in ex-Cognac casks and bottled at cask strength of 62.6%. This is one of Savanna's traditionnel, molasses-based rums rather than an agricole, so it leans into a deeper, wood-and-grape character.
Long tropical ageing and the Cognac casks give it a nutty, woody profile with caramel, dried fruit and pecan, plenty of tropical fruit and a clear grape-spirit, brandy-like edge, finishing warm, woody and slightly bitter. The high strength makes it intense and the alcohol can feel forward, so time in the glass helps it settle. Certified unsweetened, it is a serious, contemplative sipper for drinkers who enjoy Cognac-influenced, oak-driven rum and the heavier side of Reunion's output.
