Savanna Origine 1870

Savanna Origine 1870 is a blended rum from Savanna on Reunion, a distillery whose name dates to 1870 and which produces agricole, molasses and high ester Grand Arome side by side. This release sits at the elegant, balanced end of the house, with only a moderate ester lift rather than the full funk of its Grand Arome line.

Bottled at 50 percent, it favours refinement over power. The nose is floral and spicy with candied fruit, the palate elegant and spicy with floral and saline notes, and the finish stays warm on spice, caramel and a briny edge. Dry and lightly woody, it drinks better the longer it sits in the glass, a composed, slow sipping rum that shows Savanna's gentler face, rewarding patience without demanding a tolerance for wild ester intensity.
