Savanna Lontan 2019

Savanna Lontan 57 2019 is a single cask white agricole from Savanna on Reunion, an island distillery that makes agricole, molasses and high ester rum in parallel. The Lontan name signals the funky, ester rich side of the house, and this unaged version delivers it at full white strength.

Distilled from fresh cane juice on a column still and bottled unaged at 57 percent, it is built for impact. The nose leads with olive, esters, glue and tropical fruit, the palate piles on olive, brine and esters with real heat, and the finish stays salty, olive driven and smoky. This is intense, savoury and saline rather than soft, a wild white in the mould drinkers reach for when they want the salty, fruity funk of a serious clairin or Grand Arome, equally at home as a slow, careful sipper and a powerful cocktail base.
