Description
Savanna in Reunion makes agricole, molasses and high-ester Grand Arome rums, and this Creol is a cane-juice agricole, a 2007 vintage aged ten years in ex-bourbon. Reunion sits outside the Martinique AOC but has a deep agricole tradition, and a decade of tropical ageing has worked the spirit well into the wood.
Time in the barrel has pulled it toward warm, sweet-leaning notes: cocoa, toffee and tropical fruit on the nose, with a fruity palate over a grassy core that has softened with age. Bottled unsweetened at 46 percent, it stays dry despite the cocoa and toffee, the richness coming from oak and tropical maturation rather than sugar. A medium-dark, fruit-and-cocoa aged agricole for relaxed neat sipping, where the years in ex-bourbon have rounded the cane character into something mellow and approachable.
