Description
This 2022 HERR is a Savanna limited edition from Reunion, an unaged white built for ester intensity. Savanna is unusual in making agricole, traditional molasses and high-ester Grand Arome rum side by side, and the HERR sits at the loud, funky end of that spread, here a molasses-based white rather than a cane-juice agricole.
Long fermentation drives the ester count sky-high, and the profile lands as overripe pineapple and fruit-candy sweetness wrapped around olive, brine and a green, vegetal, fermented edge, the love-it-or-hate-it extreme of rum funk. At 57% it is bold and concentrated but a touch more approachable than the wildest Savanna releases, keeping the pineapple-and-olive madness in reach. It is a characterful white for Ti Punch and daiquiris, and a fascinating neat pour for anyone who chases Hampden-style intensity.
