A Cuban ron ligero from Santiago de Cuba leaning on dried fruit, toasted oak and allspice, column distilled from molasses and softened by ageing into a nutty, faintly caramelled sipper at 40%.
Description
Santiago de Cuba Siglo 1/2 comes from the distillery that has long defined eastern Cuba's house style, a light bodied ron built for elegance rather than weight. The Siglo line sits among the brand's older releases, blended by the maestro ronero for the smooth, rounded character that makes Cuban rum so recognisable.
It is distilled on column stills from molasses and carries the clean, charcoal polished spirit typical of the island, then aged in the tropics where oak works quickly in the heat. The result is a dry leaning Cuban with dried fruit and a woody, slightly nutty middle, allspice through the centre and a finish that softens into caramel. Sugar levels are undisclosed, but it reads more savoury than sweet, an after dinner pour with cigar friendly weight.
