A light, unsweetened Cuban in the classic ron ligero mould, ex-bourbon aged for eleven years with vanilla, honey, coconut and tropical fruit over a warm, gently spiced finish, an easy 40% built for daiquiris.
Description
Santiago de Cuba comes from the island's southeast, working in the clean, light ron ligero tradition that gives Cuban rum its reputation as the backbone of the daiquiri and the Cuba Libre. This Extra Anejo is a column still molasses rum aged eleven years in ex-bourbon wood and bottled unsweetened at 40%, true to the country's drier, more spirit forward approach.
The nose is bright with tropical fruit, vanilla, coconut and dried dates, and the palate stays light and easy with vanilla, honey, tropical fruit and a touch of natural sweetness, closing warm and gently spiced with a burnt sugar edge. Despite the fruit notes it stays genuinely dry, which is part of its appeal. It shines in a well balanced Daiquiri or a Cuba Libre, where its clean fruit and soft oak come through, rather than asking to be studied slowly neat.
