Santa Teresa’s 1796 finished in Arabica coffee casks turns the Venezuelan solera blend toward roast, with intense coffee, cinnamon and dark chocolate over vanilla, drier than a coffee liqueur and built for cocktails or dessert.
Description
Santa Teresa 1796 is one of Venezuela's benchmark soleras, and this release finishes that base in Arabica coffee casks to pull the whole thing toward roast and spice. The core is a smooth, dessert leaning Venezuelan ron, molasses based and solera blended for finesse, and the coffee cask layers intense Arabica, cinnamon and dark chocolate over its native vanilla and caramel. Bottled at 46%, it carries more grip than the standard expression.
The palate is coffee forward, roasted beans and roasted nuts threaded with vanilla, finishing on coffee, dark chocolate and dry oak. Where many coffee influenced spirits turn sticky, this one stays comparatively dry, the roast and bitterness keeping the sweetness in check. Traditional rum notes take a back seat to the coffee, which makes it a curious, polarising pour neat but a strong base for after dinner cocktails or pairing with dessert. It suits drinkers who like coffee character but want something built on rum rather than sugar syrup.
