Description
Santa Digna is the Chardonnay from Miguel Torres in Chile, drawn from vineyards in the broad Central Valley. The valley runs between the Andes and the coastal range, and cooling air drawn down from the mountains at night tempers the warm days, holding acidity and keeping the fruit fresh. This is made in a young, unoaked style, fermented and kept without barrel so the wine stays bright and driven by primary fruit rather than oak or extended ageing. That approach shows the grape and site cleanly, with no wood to mask the fresh character. The colour is pale lemon. The nose is open and fruity, with green apple, lemon and pear over ripe white peach and a light floral top. The palate is medium bodied, crisp and easy, the orchard and stone fruit carried by fresh acidity to a clean, direct finish. This is a wine for drinking young, within a year or two of the vintage. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
