A Hampden LROK from 2000 bottled by Sansibar at 17 years, a relaxed, drinkable expression of the high-ester estate with floral, oily wood, pineapple and olive over a spicy finish at 47.4%.
Description
Sansibar Hampden Distillery LROK 2000 is a Hampden bottled by the German label Sansibar at 17 years, drawing on Trelawny's reference high-ester distillery. LROK is one of Hampden's marques, and this expression shows the estate's character in a more relaxed, approachable register rather than at full overproof force.
Distilled on double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it opens floral, woody and lightly roasted, with the polish-and-solvent edge Hampden is known for. The palate is oily and woody with a sweet-bitter balance, leading into a finish of spice, pineapple and olive brine, classic Hampden savoury funk. Bottled unsweetened at 47.4%, it is described as a very good, relaxed and drinkable Hampden, the kind of well-aged single-distillery bottling that delivers the estate's signature without overwhelming the glass.
