Torres makes Sangre de Toro Reserva in D.O. Catalunya from Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah grown across Catalonia. Aged twelve months in oak, it is a warm, ripe Spanish red of red berries, plum, pepper and sweet spice.
Description
Sangre de Toro Reserva is a red wine from D.O. Catalunya made by the family firm Torres from Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah. The blend draws on warm Mediterranean vineyard sites across Catalonia, where generous sunshine and a long, dry growing season ripen the Garnacha fully, giving the wine its ripe red fruit, warmth and softly rounded body. Cooling influences from altitude and the sea keep the fruit fresh enough to balance that ripeness. The grapes are fermented on their skins for colour and grip, then the wine is aged twelve months in oak, where slow oxygen contact rounds the tannins and adds vanilla and sweet spice over the fruit. It is deep ruby, the nose led by ripe red berries and plum with black pepper, dried herbs and a vanilla lift from the barrel. The palate is warm and mature, generous and fruit driven, with soft tannins, a touch of liquorice and a spiced, lightly oaked finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It is a flexible table red for grilled and roast meats, from beef and lamb to pork, and for hard Spanish cheeses.
