Sang de Corb is a Terra Alta red from Celler Frisach, a family winery in Corbera d’Ebre. An organic, natural blend of Cariñena and two Garnachas, twelve months in oak, with ripe red fruit, garrigue herbs and a savoury edge.
Description
Sang de Corb is a red from D.O. Terra Alta in Catalonia, made by Celler Frisach, the family winery founded in Corbera d'Ebre in 2009 by brothers Joan and Francesc Ferré. They farm 40 hectares organically and work only local varieties, here a blend of Cariñena, Garnacha and the hairy-leafed Garnacha Peluda. Terra Alta is a high, dry inland zone where hot days and the dry Mediterranean climate ripen the fruit fully, while cooler nights help hold freshness. Garnacha brings ripe red fruit and warmth, Cariñena adds acidity, grip and a savoury edge, and Garnacha Peluda lends colour and structure. Farmed organically and made as a natural wine, with minimal intervention in the cellar, it ages twelve months in oak barrel, where slow oxygen exchange settles the tannins without burying the fruit. It is bright, deep red, with ripe raspberry and plum, dried garrigue herbs, liquorice and an earthy, savoury depth. The palate is medium to full bodied, with fresh acidity, fine tannins and a long, herbal finish. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees, slightly cool. It suits grilled meats, roast pork and mushrooms.
