Sanclodio is a Galician field blend of Albariño, Godello, Loureiro and Treixadura from D.O. Ribeiro, the Moro family’s project in Atlantic Spain. Aged on its lees, it shows pear, apple and lemon with a floral, mineral edge.
Description
Sanclodio comes from D.O. Ribeiro, the Galician venture of Carlos Moro and the Emilio Moro family, who built their reputation in Ribera del Duero before turning to Atlantic whites. The blend brings together four native and adopted varieties, with Albariño, Godello, Loureiro and Treixadura each adding a different layer, from stone fruit to florality to structure. The region's cool, wet Atlantic climate and granite soils keep acidity high and the fruit precise. After fermentation the wine is aged on its lees, and the periodic stirring of that sediment builds a rounder mid palate and a fine savoury depth while the fruit stays fresh. The colour is pale lemon. The nose is aromatic, with pear, green apple and lemon lifted by white peach and white flowers. The palate is fresh and balanced, with a firm line of acidity and a saline, mineral finish drawn from the granite. Serve it at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It is an easy match for shellfish, grilled white fish and fresh salads, and works equally well on its own as an aperitif.
