This Samuel Gelston's is a single pot still whiskey from West Cork Distillers, the independent Skibbereen distillery in Co. Cork. Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, the style that is Ireland's own, it carries no age statement and was bottled around 2020 for global sale.
The whiskey rested in ex-bourbon oak before a finish in Pinot Noir casks, the red wine wood adding dried fruit and a berry edge to the vanilla and nutty malt. Pot still spirit brings a peppery, oily prickle, and at 40% the whole stays soft and rounded.
