Description
Sameirás 1040 comes from Adega Antonio Cajide in D.O. Ribeiro, the inland Galician region along the Miño and its tributaries, where Atlantic influence meets warmer, drier valleys. The wine is a blend of native varieties led by Treixadura with Albariño, Godello and Lado, drawn from old vines that range from 15 to 70 years of age, with up to three passes through each vineyard to pick only the ripest fruit. The name refers to the winemaking: when the fermenting wort reaches a density of 1040 it is racked into French oak barrels to finish fermentation in wood, then aged six months on its lees in barrel. Finishing fermentation in oak integrates the wood gently and builds texture, while the lees contact releases mannoproteins that broaden the palate and add a savoury, nutty layer through slow oxygen exchange. The colour is bright golden straw. The nose is layered, with white peach and ripe pear over almond, honey and white flowers. The palate is textured and rounded yet fresh, with citrus peel and a mineral thread holding it together through a long, nutty finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
