A twenty year old Guyanese single cask from Italian purist Samaroli at 46 percent, unusually bright with pineapple and mango over woody sulphur, brown sugar and peaches, closing minty and lightly chili-spiced.
Description
Samaroli released this Guyana Rum 2003 as a twenty year old single cask at 46 percent, in the house's unsweetened, continentally aged, reduced-proof style. No specific heritage still is named, so the bottle is best read through its Samaroli pedigree and its own distinctive tropical-fruit profile.
Matured for two decades, it noses woody with pineapple, a sulphur edge and mango, the palate turning to wood, brown sugar, peaches and lemon peel, finishing woody, minty and lightly chili-spiced. The bright tropical fruit sets it apart from the darker, anise-led Demerara stereotype, balanced here against the bitterness and liquorice that drinkers recognise as Guyanese. Bottled dry at a moderate strength, it is a well-balanced single cask with a fine mouthfeel, an elegant and fruit-forward older Guyanese rum in the considered Samaroli manner.
