A 22 year Trinidad single cask from Samaroli at a measured 50%, dry and minty with lime, grass and earthy notes over vanilla, mocha and light smoke, an elegant continental-aged sipper.
Description
Samaroli is the historic Italian bottler with a purist house style, elegant single casks at deliberately reduced proof, unsweetened and continental-aged, and this 1999 Trinidad rum, in the TDL idiom, is a 22 year release at 50%. The reduced strength is a Samaroli signature, chosen for balance over power.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak in cooler European conditions, it leans dry and refined, with mint, rubber, burnt sugar and wood on the nose, then mint, vanilla, grass and roasted notes on the palate, finishing on mint, mocha, oak and grass. There is an earthy, herbal thread running through it and a faint whisky-like smoke. The body is lighter and more diluted than a full-proof powerhouse, but the elegance and length carry it, and most enjoy it neat. A polished, minty, dry Trinidad rum for drinkers who value restraint and balance.
