Samaroli is a historic purist bottler known for elegant, balanced single casks at deliberately measured strength, and this 2002 Demerara fits that mould at nineteen years and 48%. The profile points squarely to Port Mourant, the heavy double wooden pot still behind old navy rum, here presented in a more relaxed, accessible form than full cask strength.

Matured in ex-bourbon and unsweetened, it offers classic PM wood, dried fruit, burnt sugar and light smoke, with liquorice, mint and tobacco emerging across a dry, oak-led palate and finish. A fine pencil-shaving note develops with time in the glass, deepening the impression. Some drinkers wish for more concentration, finding it gentle for the marque, but that restraint is the point: a balanced, characterful old Demerara built as an everyday sipper rather than a heavyweight, true to Samaroli's understated house style.
