A seventeen-year DDL Demerara blend from Samaroli at 45%, light and herbal with pineapple, mint and tropical fruit over nutty wood and dried fruit, finishing dry and spiced, elegant rather than heavy.
Description
Samaroli's Demerara Symphony is a blended bottling of Demerara Distillers rum at seventeen years, presented in the house style of balanced, continental-aged single casks reduced to a gentle 45%. It reads as a lighter, more aromatic Guyanese blend rather than a single heavy-still expression, the kind of composed, elegant Demerara Samaroli is known for.
Matured in ex-bourbon and unsweetened, it opens herbal and minty with pineapple and wood, then turns nutty with tropical and dried fruit on the palate, before a dry, spiced finish carrying more dried fruit. Some drinkers would welcome a higher strength to give it more drive, but the appeal here is nuance and freshness over power. A dusty, plaster-like wood note threads through in the older style. This is a refined, fruit-and-herb Demerara for drinkers who prize subtlety and balance rather than weight.
