Description
From the legendary Caroni distillery, which ceased production in 2003 and left behind a finite stock that collectors have chased ever since, this carries the 1997 vintage and a full 26 years of age. It was chosen by Samaroli, the long established Italian bottler with a reputation for poise and balance, and reduced to a still generous 51.2% in their house style.
Molasses distillate matured in ex-bourbon casks, it shows the Caroni signature in a more weathered register: petrol and dried fruit on the nose, then a smoky, leathery palate with mint and a clean metallic edge. The long continental ageing has tempered the diesel without erasing it, leaving a dry, characterful and unmistakably industrial Trinidad rum that wears its years openly.
