Samai White Rum

Samai distils this white rum in Cambodia from molasses across pot and column stills, bottling it light and approachable at 41%. It is an easygoing, sweet-leaning style rather than a dry, austere white, and its appeal lies in fruit and softness with a touch of exotic origin behind it.

The nose is fresh and fruity with banana, citrus and a vegetal lift, and the palate keeps things gentle with vanilla, citrus, tropical fruit and a hint of sugar-cane, closing on a floral, lime-and-herb finish. The body is light and the texture soft, with a coconut and faint cocoa character that makes it very easy to drink. This is a white built for relaxed sipping and simple serves rather than serious contemplation. In a light cocktail or with cola it does exactly what it sets out to do, cleanly and without fuss.
