Description
Saltimbanqui Sauvignon Blanc is made in the D.O. Rueda by Bodega Javier Sanz Viticultor for Aribau, a family firm with more than 50 years in the trade that launched its own wines in 2012. The fruit comes from Sauvignon Blanc vines over 25 years old, planted in the stony terroir of Rueda on the high plain of Castilla y León. Altitude is central here: the vineyards sit high, so warm days are cut by cold nights, and that diurnal swing locks in the acidity and the pungent aromatics that mark the grape. The stony, gravelly soils drain freely and add a mineral edge. This is a young wine made without oak, fermented cool in stainless steel to protect the fresh, herbaceous character, with no lees ageing to blur the fruit. The colour is pale straw with green glints. The nose is aromatic, showing lime, green apple, gooseberry and cut grass, with a hint of fennel. The palate is crisp and dry, light to medium bodied, with bright citrus acidity and a clean, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
