Sakurao Togouchi Beer Cask Finish is a no age statement blended whisky from Sakurao Brewery & Distillery in Hiroshima, bottled in 2024 at 40% for Europe. The Togouchi range is known for maturation in Hiroshima's Togouchi railway tunnel and a willingness to explore unconventional finishing casks, with the beer cask variant being one of the more playful releases in the line.
The blend starts in Ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished in IPA beer barrels, which contribute a hop-derived citrus brightness, a light herbal bitterness and a touch of grain sweetness to the vanilla and cereal base of the whisky. The provenance of the blend is undisclosed, as is typical for Togouchi, but the finish gives this bottling a distinctive and approachable character of its own.
