Sakurao Sauternes Cask Finish is a no age statement single malt from Sakurao Brewery & Distillery in Hiroshima, bottled at 50% for European release. Sakurao opened in 2017 near Miyajima and produces its single malt with a focus on cask exploration, reflecting Hiroshima's mild, sea-influenced climate in the maturation.
The liquid is drawn from Ex-Bourbon casks and finished in Sauternes wine casks, the sweet Bordeaux dessert wine imparting honeyed stone fruit, apricot and a delicate botrytis richness to the spirit's clean cereal and vanilla base. The result is a gentle, approachable expression with a fruit-forward character and a softly sweet finish typical of well-handled wine cask work.
