Sakurao 4 Years Old 2021 is a single cask, cask strength single malt from Sakurao Brewery & Distillery in Hiroshima, bottled in 2025 at 55% for the Netherlands market. The distillery, opened in 2017 near the sacred island of Miyajima, has built a reputation for transparent, single cask releases that show its spirit at various stages of development.
The whisky started in Ex-Bourbon before a finishing period in an Islay cask, which layers a coastal smokiness and faint brine over the base of citrus zest, light vanilla and fresh cereal. It is a pairing that suits the distillery's own sea-influenced Hiroshima character, and the cask strength presentation keeps that interplay vivid and unfiltered.
