Sakurao 3 Years Old 2019 Cask #5353 is a single cask, cask strength single malt from Sakurao Brewery & Distillery in Hiroshima, selected and bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd for the European market in 2022. Sakurao opened in 2017 near Miyajima and has attracted the attention of independent bottlers looking for transparent, youthful Japanese single malt, and this cask is an example of that interest.
Distilled in 2019 and matured for three years in a first-fill Ex-Bourbon hogshead, the whisky retains a vivid young character: citrus, fresh fruit and honey alongside new wood tannin and a distinctive vegetative, herbal note. The first-fill wood gives it energy and grip, and the cask strength presentation at 62% keeps every element in sharp relief, making it an expressive and honest statement from an early stage of the distillery's life.
