A Saint James vintage agricole carrying the 1979 year on the label, drawn from one of Martinique’s oldest and largest houses, distilled from fresh sugar cane juice and bottled at a measured 44%.
Description
Saint James has been making rum on Martinique since 1765 and ranks among the island's largest and most recognisable producers, known for its squared bottle and its full range from blanc to vintage. This Récolté bottling carries the 1979 year, placing it among the older agricole releases.
Work under the Martinique AOC means fresh-pressed cane juice only and no added sugar. Bottled at 44%, a gentle proof that suits long ageing. Aged agricole of this kind typically keeps a grassy backbone while gaining vanilla, baking spice, toasted oak, cocoa and leather, drier and more spice-led than a sweet molasses rum of similar maturity. One to sip neat and unhurried.
