Saint James has distilled in Martinique since 1765 and ranks among the island's largest houses, and this Cuvee d'Excellence is an assemblage drawing on older stock, reputedly a blend of the house's 12 year old and Hors d'Age. Pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice and bottled unsweetened in the AOC tradition, it aims for accessibility over intensity.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows a mature, oak-driven profile: round, fleshy wood and dried fruit with cinnamon and oak on the nose, then woody, rounded cinnamon and apricot across the palate, finishing on citrus, vanilla, a touch of smoke and an earthy note. The blend of older rums lends seriousness and depth while keeping the spirit smooth.
