A seven year Martinique agricole from Saint James, dry and woody at 43 percent with cane juice, nuts, dried fruit, cinnamon, coffee and toasted oak, a balanced classic and a good starter aged agricole.
Description
Saint James 7 Ans is an aged agricole from Saint James, one of Martinique's oldest and largest houses, distilling since 1765 and instantly known by its squared bottle. The seven year sits among the distillery's accessible aged expressions, a dependable way into the style.
Distilled from fresh pressed cane juice on a column still and matured seven years in ex bourbon oak, it keeps a dry, structured profile typical of the house. The nose offers wood, apple, vanilla and fruit, the palate woody and lightly candied on cane with caramel, and the finish brings spice, wood, fruit and pepper. Bottled unsweetened at 43 percent, it stays approachable without padding, the cane juice freshness still showing through the toasted oak, a balanced Saint James that works as a starter aged agricole and an everyday sipper.
