Description
Sàgona is a small estate in the heart of Pratomagno, in the Arezzo province of Tuscany, where four hectares of vineyards over 40 years old sit at close to 500 metres above sea level. The altitude brings cool nights and a wide diurnal range that slows ripening, holding acidity and fixing the bright red-fruit character of Sangiovese while the surrounding woodland and rural setting keep the fruit clean. The wine is farmed under organic and natural principles and certified vegan, with no additions in the cellar. Ageing in cement rather than oak preserves freshness and the grape's own profile, the inert walls allowing slow micro-oxygenation that softens tannin without lending wood flavour. The result is a medium-bodied red, ruby in colour, with a nose of sour cherry, red currant and dried thyme over a savoury earthy base. The palate is firm and linear, carried by fresh acidity and fine tannin into a dry, herb-tinged finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It suits roast lamb, grilled beef and tomato-based pasta.
