Description
Sàgona is a small estate on the slopes of the Pratomagno massif, in Tuscany, farming at around 500 metres above sea level. Primi Passi is a white blend of Malvasia and Trebbiano, two traditional central-Italian grapes, made under natural, organic and vegan practices. The altitude is the key to the style: cool nights and a wide day-to-night temperature swing preserve acidity and keep the aromatics fresh, giving a lighter, more mineral wine than the Tuscan norm. The wine is fermented and aged in concrete tanks. Concrete is neutral, so it adds no wood flavour, but its thermal stability gives a slow, steady fermentation and a rounder, more textured mouthfeel than steel while keeping the fruit clean and direct. The colour is pale straw, and being a natural wine it may show a slight haze. The nose is fresh, with green apple, lemon and pear over white flowers. The palate is dry and light, the crisp acidity from the high vineyards carrying the fruit to a clean, faintly nutty and saline finish. It is made to be drunk young and cool. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10C.
