Description
Sagona is a small estate in the Pratomagno hills above Arezzo, in eastern Tuscany, where Daniela and Barbara farm vines and olive groves on terraces between two rivers. The white is made from Trebbiano, the region's workhorse grape, here treated with care to give it more depth than usual. The vineyards sit at altitude on stony hillside soils, and the cool mountain air and wide day to night temperature range keep the wine fresh and lift its aromatics. This is a natural wine, farmed organically and made without additions, certified vegan. It spends ten months in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange and time on the lees build texture and a light nutty depth while keeping the fruit clear. The colour is a bright straw yellow. The nose shows green apple, ripe peach, almond and a herbal, dried flower note. The palate is fresh and textured, with ripe orchard fruit, gentle grip and a stony, savoury finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.
