Description
S. Maria al Monte Sambuca is a classic Italian anise liqueur, made by BSM 1840 to a long established recipe and bottled at 42%, a strength that places it among the higher proof liqueurs. Sambuca is an aniseed led style, here built from aniseed and selected herbs, with the botanicals worked into the spirit so the natural flavours come through clean and concentrated. The result is a sweet, aromatic liqueur with the unmistakable anise signature of the category.
The nose is an intense aniseed aroma with subtle herbal notes and a pleasant sweetness, while the palate is full bodied and smooth with a dominant aniseed note supported by a hint of liquorice and herbs, finishing long and intense on a balance of sweetness and spice. In a drink it brings a sweet liquorice backbone, aromatic anise lift and real body, useful in stirred and after dinner builds. It is traditionally served neat with three coffee beans floated on top, the classic con la mosca presentation, and also flamed or chilled. It pairs with strong desserts such as tiramisu or panna cotta. Serve neat at room temperature or well chilled to suit the moment.
