A 30 Year Old Guyanese single barrel from 1423 S.B.S, unsweetened and bottled at cask strength, trading dried fruit, honey and vanilla against polished oak, a wood-driven Demerara at a serious 59.2%.
Description
An S.B.S Guyana 1993 from 1423, the Danish bottler whose Single Barrel Selection is built on transparency, cask strength and no added sugar. The still is unstated, but a three-decade-old ex-bourbon Demerara of this profile points to the column-and-pot DDL stock at Diamond, and three decades in oak have made wood the leading voice.
Drawn from a single ex-bourbon cask at 59.2%, it sets honey, vanilla and dried fruit against a deep, polished oak frame, with caramel and a slightly astringent, fruity finish. The long maturation gives tannin and dry spice without tipping into bitterness, the fruit staying lively underneath, and the cask strength means a little water helps it open. A clean, wood-forward old Guyanese for drinkers who enjoy age and integration over funk.
