A young Martinique eleve sous bois from the Distillerie du Simon, fresh cane and vanilla meeting cinnamon spice and light oak with a dry, minty grip, a characterful, direct agricole at 49 percent.
Description
Braud and Quennesson Rhum Eleve Sous Bois is a young Martinique agricole from the Distillerie du Simon, bottled under the Braud and Quennesson name. Eleve sous bois is the amber tier of the Martinique AOC, oak rested for at least a year but under the three years required for a vieux, a bridge between blanc and aged rum.
Distilled from fresh pressed cane juice on a creole column kept low for grassy character, then rested in oak, it keeps the freshness of a blanc with a light cask layer. The nose offers sugarcane, a sweet edge, vegetal cane and cinnamon, the palate is fruity and woody on cane, and the finish stays on cinnamon, sugarcane and a minty lift. Bottled unsweetened at 49 percent, it shows more spice and dry grip than a white agricole while staying fresh and direct, a characterful, well priced introduction to the lightly aged style.
