Rumtastisch Port Narrow Captain's Blend is a Panamanian molasses rum selected by the German bottler Rumtastisch, aged seven and a half years and finished in Port casks, bottled at 40%. It carries a certified unsweetened status, which makes the depth of its fruit all the more notable, since the sweet impression here comes from the wood rather than added sugar.

The Port and Sherry influence dominates, giving raisin, plum and dried fruit on the nose, a creamy palate of sherried, Port soaked fruit, and a soft, mild finish of more raisin and plum. It reads as clearly sweet despite the absence of dosage, a genuinely sweet seeming rum earned through cask choice rather than sugar, which is an honest selling point in a category full of added sweetness. The result is an easy, comforting sipper and a fine dessert rum, soft and approachable at this gentle strength.
